"Nick Koteman and State Farm are the insurance equivalent of a greasy used car salesman at best. Not an agent at all. He has no answers to questions, and no authority to do anything but sell you an overpriced product.

After being a State Farm customer that has never been late on a payment and only took out more policies over the course of the close to 15 years of carrying coverage, my experience making my first claims has been an absolute nightmare. I have zero faith in State Farm to handle a claim on policies such as home or life after the way claims on a vehicle have been handled.

I am currently 8 months in to open claims.

After I had a body shop provide an estimate and returned it to State Farm, claims were opened. Over a months time went by with no correspondence. I checked in on progress but the claims had been fumbled somewhere along the line and were just getting started. I was told that State Farm did not have an adjuster in the area to look at the vehicle but that an "estimation team" would look at the claim. A second trip to the body shop was required bc the first 50+ pictures taken by the body shop, and the agent himself, of the damage to the vehicle was not satisfactory for their estimation team. State Farms estimation team managed to work up their own estimate off of pictures that weren't good enough the first time around yet no one from State Farm beside the agent himself looked at the vehicle.
A joke of a payment, just big enough to automatically take my deductible out of, was finally issued on each claim. From there State Farm treated the claims like they were finished. They had made their payment. No correspondence outside of a letter with the check that "confirmed a conversation" that i never had.

After calling the claims department and asking to speak with a manager to explain the partial payments, I was told there was no manager on shift and I would be put on a call back list. After speaking with my agent about this he provided me with the claims manager and the estimation team managers contact information. I called both. Neither answered or returned my message. After refusing to accept the partial payment as settlement and months passed again, the only way I made any progress was to check in, in person. I recently received notification that a "supplementary payment" was issued. After waiting for the check to arrive for almost a month with no correspondence i reached out to be informed the check was issued to the body shop without my knowledge or approval. No work has been preformed. The work has not even been scheduled. The 2 payments combined are just over 45% of the estimate provided let alone anthing that comes along once work is begun.

Seems to me the only thing State Farm is good at is collecting a payment. Ive never had a problem with them collecting my money."

"I have been a customer with Nick Koeteman’s office since I was 16 years old. I had never had a claim with State Farm until last month, when my boat needed a new lower unit due to a collision with something under water. I filed a claim with State Farm and received a call within a couple hours from the claims department. I got the claims department the photos and estimate that they requested and was issued an electronic payment within 24 hours of filing a claim. Great service, and was able to get our boat going again before the next weekend! Thanks, State Farm!!"
